Observe the Transit of Venus
Date: Tuesday June 05, 2012
Time: 5:00 PM - 8:30 PM
MOSH, the Northeast Florida Astronomical
Society (NEFAS) and FSCJ are partnering
to give visitors a special opportunity to view the transit of Venus
from the museum’s rooftop and the Bryan-Gooding Planetarium. This rare astronomical event occurs when Venus passes directly between
the earth and sun. There have been only seven transits of Venus since
the invention of the telescope and the next one will not occur until
2117. Solar telescopes will be stationed on MOSH’s rooftop and
individual solar viewers may be purchased for $1. Live video of the
transit will stream in the Bryan-Gooding Planetarium. Access to
the rooftop and planetarium are included with admission but space is
limited.
