Screen Shot 2018-01-16 at 2.36.48 PMWolf & Cub established themselves as a brand in 2014, but opened in Downtown Jacksonville in June of 2016. The owners, Varick Rosete and Emily Moody-Rosete, are described as “entrepreneurs, artists, and cultural instigators that set out to create a lifestyle brand that epitomizes one’s unique style and individuality”. They commit themselves to this by offering hand-screenprinted T-shirts, jewelry, decorative items, and one-of-a-kind vintage finds to name a few. They proudly offer that the interesting styles found in their boutique can brighten your day and boost your self-esteem.

After their start, Wolf and Cub spent a successful trial as a pop-up shop in Brooklyn Station and soon after, they opened in the Historic Elks Building at 205 North Laura as one of the only boutiques in #DTJax.

In addition to the unique-to-the-boutique screenprinted T-shirts found in Wolf & Cub, they also specialize in small-run custom orders of shirts for events like wedding parties, orteam-building trips. On their website, you can find a form that allows you to inquire about information for a prospective order.

Wolf & Cub is open for business from 12-5 Tuesday-Friday, and from 12-4 on Saturday, but they stay open to participate in DTJax’s First Wednesday ArtWalk every month, setting out their staple $5 vintage sale bins. In addition to this special sale, they often offer normal business-hour deals on their screenprinted T-shirts and vintage clothing items, that can be found promoted on their Instagram and Twitter accounts, or on the chalkboard that sits outside the boutique.

They commit themselves to maintaining a large presence in Jacksonville, a city that means so much to them. Emily, a Jacksonville native, works in the shop full-time and continuously works to positively affect the downtown culture skills acquired through years of fashion and sales experience, and experience owning and running not only Wolf and Cub, but Five-Points boutique, Anomaly, and the live music venue, Underbelly. Additionally, Varick’s experience as former president of AIGA Jacksonville, co-founder of One Spark, co-founder of nGenWorks, and current Art Director of Tigerlilly brings a vast and varying knowledge of branding and design to the boutique and to Jacksonville. To keep their momentum going, they plan to expand their selection of artists and designers and begin hosting monthly workshops. You can follow the blog on their website that offers in-depth details about current promotions, ArtWalk experiences, and, of course, style.

Things To Do Downtown

Arts & Culture

Another year has come and gone and as we leave 2017 behind, it is exciting to welcome in a new year of growth and development – not only for Downtown, but for ourselves as well! Some of the biggest resolutions made each year are to become healthier, more active and to get in shape. If you’re like the majority of us and share this goal for 2018, there’s good news: just within Downtown and its surrounding neighborhoods, there are so many resources to help keep you on track. Here are a few places to consider visiting, joining or contacting in #DTJax to help you get started and stay on track in 2018.

Anytime Fitness

anytimeGet to a healthier place at Anytime Fitness! The friendly, professional staff is trained to help you along your fitness journey, no matter how much support you need. Visit during staffed hours or call for an appointment today

What we love most: The class schedule! Nothing pushes you harder than group exercise and Anytime Fitness has a class for just about anything that you want to work out. Whether you just have 15 minutes to spare for an ab class or want to take up kickboxing, Anytime Fitness has a class that fits your needs. Stay up to date with class schedules and specials on their Facebook page.

First Coast YMCA

Bank of America YMCA: 50 N. Laura St. (Bank of America Tower) | 904.356.9622 | Winston Family YMCA:  221 Riverside Ave | 904.265.1775

winston

First Coast YMCA stands for much more than just being in shape. The YMCA is an integral part of our local community and advocates for youth development, healthy living and social responsibility. Working out at “the Y” helps much more than just yourself, when you pay for a membership or services, you are supporting the youth and the future of our community. However, when it comes to fitness, both locations in Downtown have top of the line equipment, personnel and resources. Both locations also offer a wide variety of group fitness classes that are no extra cost. Check out the class schedules here.

What we love most: The focus on healthy living as a whole! The Winston Family YMCA offers more than just fitness classes. There is also a variety of cooking classes, support groups and family programs. Their class and program offerings are always changing, check out what they have coming up here.

Current special: First Coast YMCA almost always has a new-member special or a referral special going on. It changes often and they will sometimes hold one-day sales. Your best bet is to give them a call and find out what great deals they have at the moment.

New Jax Gym

2 Independent Dr, Suite 200 | 904.707.8276

newNew Jax Gym is a locally-owned gym in the heart of Downtown Jacksonville – located at the Landing. They offer just about everything that you can find at the larger gyms in town but the pricing structure is more flexible and competitive. Here you can find the best in free weight equipment, personal training and FitCamp, yoga and Body Blast classes. The best part? An inspiring view of the St. Johns River – no matter where in the gym you are.

What we love most: Other than the view… the pricing! New Jax Gym is extremely affordable and offers options like one-day passes and other buildable packages customized to exactly what you want and nothing more. Check out the price list here. Also, their Facebook page is always full of fresh content with helpful tips for healthy living, like their page to get updates.

Current special: There aren’t any specials currently listed but feel free to give them a call or pop in to see if there are any upcoming deals.

Dance Trance

100 N Laura Street | 904.390.0939

danceEasily the most fun way to work out in #DTJax, Dance Trance is more than just a dance fitness program. It’s a way of life centered around music and dance that helps you stay physically fit. You can tone and shape, build your cardiovascular endurance, and loose weight all while picking up “off the chain” dance moves! Though we are devastated for the loss of their San Marco studio to the hurricane, we are thrilled to now have them in the heart of Downtown in the beautiful newly renovated 100 N Laura building. If the simple dumbbell and treadmill workout bores you, Dance Trance is a great, unique and exciting way to keep your 2018 resolution alive and well.

What we love most: The culture! This is more than your average workout group… “Dance Trancers” are passionate and excited to work out, which is hard to come by. Not to mention, there are all types of class-goers – old, young, male, female, tenured and brand new – the classes are diverse, speaking to just how universal the workout actually is.

Current special: 30 days for $30 trial pass. New local residents that have never been in a Dance Trance class before can now get a 30 Trial pass for $30!
