Get Downtown! Downtown's Bi-Weekly Events Listing (June 22-July 5)

It's summertime in Downtown, so grab your shorts, shades and ice skates. Yep, you read that right! Downtown has ice skating for the 4th of July weekend along with great music and fireworks for anyone looking to have fun. Don't forget to hit all the cultural hot spots before the patriotic weekend celebration.

Go Fourth & Rock at these great events during Freedom, Fanfare and Fireworks: Ice Skating & Family Activities Including arts & crafts, face painting and interactive games. (Jul 3 at Noon - 9pm, Jul 4 at 10am - 5pm & Jul 5 10am - 4pm) Freedom Ride 2009 A portion of proceeds from the Freedom Ride will benefit Jacksonville Veterans. (Jul 4 at 2:30pm) Free Concert Featuring Grammy Award winner Pat Benatar and Neil Giraldo along with Grammy Award winner Richard Marx. (Jul 4 at 5pm) Boat Decorating Contest Boaters will showcase their stars, stripes and patriotic pride for a chance to win prizes! (Jul 4 at 4pm) Fireworks on the Downtown Riverfront Fireworks can be viewed from the Northbank and Southbank of the St. Johns River. (Jul 4 at 9:45 pm)

Come rock the night away with spectacular fireworks, a fabulous view, and fantastic music during the 4th of July River Deck Party. (Jul 4 at 7pm) Celebrate 4th of July at MOSH where visitors of all ages can enjoy a trip to the museum and watch the fireworks display from the MOSH rooftop. (Jul 4 at 7pm)

Come out to the July ArtWalk for a concert that will help out our community by promoting local artists and raising donations for a local charity. Uncommon Music...For a Common Cause is a showcase for local musicians. This year's concert will feature the intricate sounds of guitarist Will Pearsall, the funky groove of Amy Hendrickson & The Prime Directive and the beautiful voice of singer/songwriter Christina Wagner with proceeds going to benefit the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation. Tickets by donation of any amount which are greatly appreciated! (Jul 1 at 7:30pm)

America's most successful black stage play is all new for 2009. The story continues, as the curling irons get hotter, the gossip juicer, and the backstabbing is deeper in Shelly Garrett's Beauty Shop 2009. The play will have you doubled-over in the aisles with laughter, and speaking of the aisles, some of the stage play takes place right in the audience. (Jun 25 at 8pm)

Put on your 3-D glasses and get ready to rock out to some tunes you'll be sure to remember during Cosmic Concerts. Guests can attend Beach Boys at 8pm, Jimmy Buffet at 9pm and Aerosmith at 10:30pm. Prepare yourself for some fancy laser work and awesome music. (Jun 26 - Jun 27)

Throughout the summer MOCA will present an array of local artists who will share their works in New Lab Gallery features Emerging Artists an exciting, yet intimate showcase. The first exhibit features local artists, Chris Chavers' and Whitney Oldenburg's oil paintings of impressionism and abstract. (Jun 15 - Jul 2)

Find out who wins! The 2009 Jacksonville 48 Hour Film Project announces its winners and shows the top 15 short films. Not only will you see which filmmakers win, you the audience can win too! There will be drawings for prizes ranging from restaurant gift certificates to movie passes. (Jun 24 at 7pm)

The Women in Forestry exhibit features the work of photographer, Rebekah Stewart, depicting women in the forestry industry. View this amazing story while appreciating the depth of imagery. (Jul 1)
