Downtown is waiting for the kids to come out and play! Why limit the fun, bring the whole family for a day of great Downtown activities.
There are endless ways you can play Downtown, but here are a few itineraries to get you started.
Saturday Fun
Begin the morning at the Main Library wandering through the garden of books in the Children’s Department. Along with great books to explore are the exciting story reading times and art making fun hosted every day. After wetting your palette for art, walk next door to MOCA for their ArtExplorium Loft to get a hands-on experience at the sixteen interactive stations that show exciting details about art inside the museum. So much excitement can work up an appetite. Take a stroll down Laura Street towards the St. John’s River and eat at one of the great dining spots along the way or at The Jacksonville Landing. After lunch grab the River Taxi to take you across the river for a view of the city from the water. On the other side of the river you will land at Friendship Fountain where you will be greeted by a large cascading water fountain. Now head to MOSH next to the park for exciting science and history made just for kids! Adventure into space at the MOSH planetarium, take a trip back in time at the dinosaur exhibit and see live animals native to Northeast Florida. To end the day step on the Skyway for an aerial view of the city as you head back the Main Library where your exciting day started.
A Sunday Family Afternoon
Sundays are great days to get the family together for a relaxing afternoon of fun Downtown. Depending on the season, you can take the family to the Baseball Grounds of Jacksonville for a Suns afternoon game or the Jacksonville Municipal Stadium for a Jaguar game. After the game head over to Kids Kampus where the young ones can climb, dig, slide or drive the playscapes of the water park or the mini-Downtown. This is a great place for kids to stimulate their creative side while learning educational skills and Downtown landmarks!
