10 Labor Day Weekend Activities in Downtown Jacksonville 2020

Labor day is right around the corner (Monday, September 7th) and we want to help you decide what your weekend plans are going to entail, of course while keeping things as safe as possible. While things look different this year, DTJax is offering up some fun events to make things feel a little more normal. We also have an idea or two up our sleeves to make your weekend a memorable one. From indoor to outdoor activities, we have a list of exciting things just for you!

1. Toy Story 4 – Movie Night & Fireworks

A night with the whole family calls for Toy Story 4 and a fireworks show to top it all off. This event is happening at 121 Financial Ballpark, home of the Jacksonville Jumbo Shrimp. They are offering up socially distanced seat tickets for a safe experience. The kids are bound to love it and enjoy being able to get out of the house. Face coverings are required upon entry and while roaming the stadium, so make sure to have them on deck!

2. MOSH – Cosmic Concert

Looking for some Friday night fun? Well we have you covered. Friday September 4th, The MOSH is holding their Cosmic Concert where you can experience sensory entertainment like no other in the planetarium. Grab a friend or your significant other and experience this wild ride together, it will definitely be a Labor Day weekend you won’t forget!

3. Sun-Ray Drive-In – Bill & Ted Face the Music

Pull on up to Sun-Ray’s drive-in movie theatre to watch Bill & Ted Face the Music, a science fiction comedy film! This showing is being offered Thursday, Friday, and Saturday night to ensure that you won’t miss it! Tickets cost $24 a car and are on sale now. You can even bring camping chairs to set up in front of your vehicle while staying with your group to ensure everyone’s safety. 4. Cowford Chophouse – Happy Hour & Dinner

Is it just you and your significant other for the weekend? Keep things classic but fun with drinks and dinner at Cowford Chophouse. Happy hour starts at 3 and lasts until 6pm on a Friday night lining up perfectly to enjoy dinner right after. Choose to dine rooftop to enjoy the beautiful weather and an incredible view of Downtown Jacksonville.

5. Picnic in the park – Treaty Oak Park


What beats a beautiful sunny day and picnic at the park? Whether you have the kids or it’s just a party of two, Treaty Oak Park is the spot for your Labor Day weekend picnic. The beautiful scenery and copious amounts of shade are sure to make your picnic enjoyable. Bring your Labor Day treats and a blanket and enjoy the outdoors, it doesn’t get safer than that!

6. Sweet Pete’s – Candy Making Class

We like to keep things sweet around here which is why our next Labor Day weekend idea includes your favorite local candy maker! Sweet Pete’s is your one stop shop for all things delicious and did you know that they offer candy making classes? Yep you heard it here, hands on classes with all the sugary goodness you could imagine. They are now offering online classes as well for those who feel more comfortable in their own kitchen.

7. MOCA – A day at the museum

Have you ever been to the Museum of Contemporary Art located in Historic Downtown? If not, this may be the best thing to plan for your Labor Day weekend. Not only can you come in and enjoy it for yourself, you also have the option for a guided tour that will provide you with all the information you need. MOCA is an experience you don’t want to miss. The MOCA Cafe is also open for take-out, so head over for a fun day and delicious food to take home with you!

8. Riverside Arts Market

Getting some fresh air and supporting locally sounds like a great Saturday to us! Stop on by the Riverside Arts Market to browse from an array of goodies including fresh produce, homemade jewelry, and delicious food trucks. Located right under the Fuller Warren Bridge, the market has a beautiful view of the St. John’s River and Downtown. 9. St. Johns River Taxi – A day on the water
