We sat down with Jamee Yocum, owner of BARK Downtown and got the scoop on BARK’s newest paw-some location in #DTJax.
Q: Tell us about BARK Downtown and what you offer? 
BARK Downtown is a satellite store to Bark on Park in Riverside, 5 Points. I decided to open BARK Downtown to cater to the residents and employees of the Downtown community. We offer a wide selection of holistic, organic and raw products for both dogs and cats! We will soon be offering a dog food delivery service to the neighborhood businesses and high rises.
Q: How did the idea of Bark come about?
BARK was an idea I created nine years ago while living in south Florida when I adopted my first dog. I had worked in the pet industry for a while prior to and was ready to venture out on my own. I then moved from Miami to Jacksonville and opened Bark on Park in 2009. It’s been growing ever since!
Q: Why did you choose Downtown for your second location?
I’ve always loved Downtown! I lived there for a few years and enjoyed the atmosphere and architecture. Expanding BARK was always on my mind but it had to be in the perfect location. Some people might not think Downtown is considered perfect, but coming from a busy city I knew Downtown would be something, someday soon! I believe in it!
Q: What would be one thing people would be surprised you offer?
I would have to say unpasteurized goat’s milk. This is considered “GOLD” to dogs. Goat’s milk elevates your pet’s health. Stop in to learn more!
Q: What’s your favorite thing about BARK?
I love all aspects of the business, but if I had to choose my favorite it would be the dogs and their sweet owners. They become family. I’ve laughed and cried with them throughout the years. I can honestly say I will remember each and every one of them.
Q: What’s a fun fact about you?
I was born on St. Patrick’s Day, I did runway modeling in my teens and early twenties, and I draw, paint and make pottery.
Q: Do you plan to offer discounts to the residents and employees of Downtown?
