For over two decades, Gene Farris has made his mark around the globe as one of the founding fathers of the tech-house music genre. From acid house to full on disco, the self taught producer’s sound hits every note on the spectrum. With seven studio albums under his belt, three number one hits, as well as his own record label Farris Wheel Recordings, the best is yet to come for this iconic producer.
Born in the south side of Chicago, the birthplace of the house music genre, Gene began DJ’ing at just 10-years old. His biggest musical influence growing up was industry favorite Lil Louis. His career as an artist took off as he went from hanging up concert posters to performing live at underground warehouse parties. In the early 90’s, his breakout debut was under legendary producer Green Velvet’s label, Relief Records.
Although he’s performed at big name events such as Coachella and The BPM Festival, Farris remains connected to his hometown roots. Not only has he established long term residencies throughout his career, he hosts a monthly party “Gene Farris & Friends” at Chicago’s Primary Nightclub.
When asked his greatest accomplishment in an interview with Magnetic Magazine, Gene left it up to the fans “Oh gosh I have no idea lol I’ve been here for a long time and plan to be here a lot longer. I think my best has yet to be seen so I will let you guys be the judge of that.”
Don’t miss a funky night of dancing downtown with the legend himself alongside local favorites Xander, Jon Kinesis and Double L at Myth Nightclub Friday March 6th.
