Jacksonville Water Taxi delivers a scenic way to get around Downtown

Jacksonville Water TaxiIf you’re looking for a unique way to get around Downtown in this beautiful fall weather, let the new Jacksonville Water Taxi take you for a spin.

Bought from the former water taxi operator, S.S. Marine Taxi, upon the manager’s retirement earlier this year, the Jacksonville Water Taxi began operation on the St. Johns July 1. Just as before, this water taxi service offers river rides to and from several stops on the North and Southbanks: The Jacksonville Landing, Friendship Fountain, The Crowne Plaza and The Chart House.

Running seven days a week, the taxis cater to visitors, special-events goers (a cool way to get to the next football game, no?) and commuters. Current hours of operation are: 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. Sunday through Thursday, and 11 a.m. to 11 p.m. Fridays and Saturdays. One full loop through all stops takes about 20-25 minutes.

Water TaxiIn addition, private charters are available. To book a charter, email info@jacksonvillewatertaxi.com. Down the road – er, river – Chief Operations Officer Lewis Hubbard said his company, which also owns the Baltimore Water Taxi, envisions collaborating with Downtown Jacksonville tour groups and other organizations for water taxi tours and onboard events.

“We’re here for the long term,” Hubbard said. “We see the potential to grow.”

Regular fare for a one-way ride is $3 per adult and $2 per child or senior citizen. During special events, fare is $5 per adult and $4 per child or senior citizen. Jacksonville Water Taxi accepts cash only.
