THE PLAYERS Championship kicks off with Downtown concert

Guest post by Billy Catlin

How many times have you headed to EverBank Field for a Jaguars or Florida/Georgia game; gone to the Arena to see Kenny Chesney or Eric Clapton; or steered toward Metro Park to hit World of Nations or The Big Ticket? Ever noticed the one constant view on the riverbank? Yep, that empty, pristine property on the river properly known as The Shipyards.

People have attempted to bring a development vision to the property, but not much of anything has held water. Why not utilize the space as an entertainment venue until a developer pitches the perfect plan?

Enter, Tee Off Downtown. The first-ever event planned on The Shipyards peninsula is set for this Friday from 4-10:30 p.m. in celebration of THE PLAYERS Championship. Mayor Alvin Brown will be “teeing off” the week of golf that is ahead, and there will be two amazing bands in Seven Nations and Bonnaroo act The Dirty Guv’nahs. Best of all, for any Downtown parking naysayers, FREE parking is available on site at The Shipyards!

For a mere $35 ticket, you get two great concerts, access to long drive and chipping contests, and access to cash bars and three food trucks. What a bargain! And when was the last time you have played golf Downtown?

As a recap: First-ever event on Shipyards peninsula, FREE parking, two incredible bands, cold beer, food trucks, contests and best of all, the setting is our beautiful Downtown.

Help us keep the Spark alive and lit – come Tee Off Downtown.
