June 27 @ 9:00 am - 11:00 am
Bike Duval is SO excited to be partnering with The Jaxson, “a place for those interested in learning about the city’s past and present, and who want a part in shaping its future”, to go on a bike ride to learn more about our city’s Black and LGBTQIA+ history over the years. We will ride through downtown, the Eastside, Springfield, Durkeeville/S-Line and the Emerald Trail Model Mile route with stops along the way! This is a FREE event but donations are encouraged and 100% of them, along with sticker sales, will be equally split between JASMYN and The Okra Project.
Bike decorations are encouraged, along with a water bottle, snacks, and bike lock. For those without access to a bicycle, the wonderful people at ZenCog have offered to lend some to us for the morning. Please just reach out in advance and that way we can help connect you to a bicycle for the event.
JASMYN supports and empowers LGBTQ young people by creating safe space, providing health and wholeness services and offering youth development opportunities while bringing people and resources together to promote equality and human rights. For more information visit JASMYN.org. Also, on June 30, they are taking part in Give OUT Day, the only national day of online giving in support of the LGBTQ community (though “early giving” is up and running already). Donations can be made at https://www.giveoutday.org/organization/jasmyn .
The Okra Project is “a collective that seeks to address the global crisis faced by Black Trans people by bringing home cooked, healthy, and culturally specific meals and resources to Black Trans People wherever we can reach them.” More information can be found at https://www.theokraproject.com/ .
**This will be a socially distant ride so please be sure to follow guidelines and space out with fellow riders.**
