Jacksonville has been celebrating Kwanzaa since the 80s and has found a home at the Ritz Theatre and Museum. Come out the day after Christmas to learn about the 7 principles and why we all should be excited about Kwanzaa.

The first principle and day is Umoja and we will be saluting Kings and Queens at the Ritz. Filled with small business owners and vendors, the first day is a community tradition. We are reaching out to community partners now to fill out the rest of the week. Kwanzaa will end at New Life Community Church on 113 W 17th St, in Jacksonville. The Kingdom Builder’s group is celebrating Kuumba (Creativity) with live music and performers; Imani (Faith) and the 160th Anniversary of Watch Night. Watch Night, also called Freedom’s Eve, is a Christian religious service held on New Year’s Eve and associated, in many African American churches, with a celebration and remembrance of those people in slavery that made it to another year.

If you are interested in vending at Umoja, please email sfrinks@asmjax.com for more information. If you are interested in more information about Kuumba/Imani/Watch Night, please email kingdombuilderscomjax@gmail.com.
