Best known as the birthplace of the blues, Lynard Skynard, and the Allman Brothers, Jacksonville has deep roots in the beginnings of southern rock, jazz, ragtime and soul. Lavilla emerged as one of the most influential cultural hubs in the South, influencing the Harlem Renaissance in New York. This era of musical genius birthed many of history’s most prominent musicians and the many who came to Jacksonville looking for their big debut.
Today, Jacksonville continues to be a path for musical talent of all genres. After years of South Florida dominating the state’s rap scene, led by artists like Uncle Luke, Trick Daddy, Rick Ross and Kodak Black, North Florida is now demanding attention due to the explosive new generation of rappers in the Jacksonville area.
